Yoga with Lucy Maresh
Lucy’s yoga practice prioritises breathing, and movements which are coordinated with the breath.
Lucy teaches yoga in the spirit of ‘the viniyoga of yoga’, an approach to the specific application of yoga for individuals developed by TKV Desikachar. She brings to this a particular interest in restorative yoga (as developed from BKS Iyengar by Judith Hanson Lasater) and in yoga for women.
Classes begin with a short period of rest, feeling into the body and becoming aware of the natural breath. A typical class will then include flowing sequences, some restorative poses and relaxation, finishing with breathing practices and/or meditation. The classes are non-competitive and open to all ages and abilities. Termly courses tend to follow a philosophical theme.
COVID-19 Update March 2021
Now the government have published a roadmap to opening up we have some idea of when in person classes can resume. All the dates are ‘at the earliest’ so could be put back.
- 29 March – Outdoor group classes (e.g. labyrinth at the beach, Mum & Baby at the park).
- 12 April – Mum & Baby can resume indoors with social distancing (Fridays, Shilbottle Hall)
- 17 May – Group yoga classes can resume indoors with social distancing (Fridays, Shilbottle Hall)
- 21 June – All restrictions lifted. Since this date is liable to slide, most of my classes will continue on zoom until the end of the Summer term (July) and we will reassess the situation then.
Please subscribe to Lucy’s monthly email if you would like to receive updates, invitations and online resources.
Online Yoga Courses – Spring 2021
These classes take place on zoom and are best suited to those with some yoga experience already. Classes are delivered with a combination of video and audio instruction – you will be able to close your eyes and take a welcome break from your screen.
Both classes follow the same theme and include asana, pranayama, relaxation and meditation. Saturday’s class offers more physical challenge. If in doubt, please get in touch.
Each four week course is £30 and includes one or two recorded practices per block. There is no additional charge to attend both classes but please choose just one as your main class when you book.

- March 11, 18, 25 & April 1
- February 6, 13, 20 & 27

Yoga at Shilbottle Community Hall
Friday 9.30-11am – provisional restart date Friday 21 June
This is an open level class suitable for all. If you are new to yoga this would be a good place to come and learn the basics. If you have more experience you will enjoy this opportunity to work at your own pace in a supportive environment. Classes are £10 and can be booked individually, as and when restrictions allow (tier 2 and below).
(If no dates show it is either because the class is fully booked or we are in lockdown / tier 3 restrictions – please get in touch if you’re not sure!)
Sunday Night Zoom Classes
Sunday night zoom classes occur every 6-8 weeks and are open to all including beginners. They are offered on an honesty box basis (which means you pay what you can). These sessions will continue in 2021 as a journey through the Celtic wheel of the year and a cyclical approach to living our yoga.
Yoga for Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond
Pregnancy Yoga and Postnatal & Baby Yoga Courses with Lucy are also running via a combination of online and in person classes.
